Making '12 Seattleites'
It all starts with a pool of volunteers who apply to be 1 of the 12 subjects. When I pick from that pool, I am aiming for subjects with varied backgrounds. After an initial meeting, a minimum of three photo sessions are set up for each subject, each one documenting a different aspect of that person's life. The basic themes I try to cover are work, home and passion.
The entire project is shot digitally, using natural light or an attachable flash as well as prime lenses. No fancy studio gear, no zoom. All the photos are retouched and presented in black and white, though nothing is altered or prettied up after the fact. This is an art project based on documentation, and accurately depicting each subject's life is extremely important.
One by one, each Seattleite is photographed, until all 12 are captured. This concludes phase 1 of the project, after which I begin putting it all together into book and show form.
